Traditionally, the maritime community believed that the ship naming and its christening ceremony were two intertwined events that have a great role in bringing good fortune and safety to the vessel, its crew and passengers. The history of vessel naming ceremony dates back to thousands of years.
Nowdays, according to IMO & SOLAS (A.600(15), MSC.160(78), SOLAS XI-1/3) it’s required the name of the vessel to be clearly printed on the portside, on the starboard bow and the superstructure, while the name along with the IMO number and the homeport must clearly printed on the stern.
